Well since I just posted an update on Sunday of Duck Collage there's not much progress to show today. But here it is anyway.....

I first started stitching with hoops because at the time
that's all I knew of. Back in the late
1960's there wasn't that much available around here at the time. We had department and fabric stores, but I
can't remember any (strictly speaking) craft stores. I still use hoops but very rarely.
Now days as my projects have gotten bigger I needed
something to accommodate the larger sizes of fabric and not leave hoop rings so
I moved on to scroll frames (or stretcher bars).
With my home made 36" wide scroll frames came the
problem of how to hold them. Answer...

Q-Snap frames were
kind of a happy accident. I needed
something to start Duck Collage on but everything I had was in use and I didn't
want to deal with hoop rings; so I decided to buy a 17x17 set to see what it
was like. I was surprised at how drum tight the Aida fabric is using it. I'm not very happy about how the fabric is
distorted in the corners, but as I'm using Aida I don't mind; in fact I think
I'll keep this Q-snap frame strictly for aida kit projects.

My first frame was a Qsnap, but I just started stitching 7 years ago (in the late 1960s my mum was a teenager, lol, I feel so young...) so Qsnaps were already very popular (considered "new" in Germany) and I hopped on the Qsnap train. I mostly stitch smaller project or Aida projects on them (I have trouble fitting "new" aida on my scroll frame, maybe I should prewash it..) and I am very happy with them =)

This month's topic has sparked a lot of interesting debates. I am a true "in-hand" stitcher myself.
I don't know if someone has asked this on a previous post, and I don't want to be repetitive. It looks like you have magnets holding on to your pattern. Are they just regular kitchen magnets or are they specially designed for this purpose? Is the chart on some type of metal board or is it laying on your fabric? I think what your doing looks pretty cool!

Your ducks are looking lovely this month. Great progress so far! I also love the tension on q-snaps. They are almost as good as Millennium Frames, but so much more affordable! Your stitching stand is pretty ingenious. I've never been good at diy stuff, but your frame looks perfect for stitching.

Nice progress. To answer your question, I'm mostly stitching with a hoop. I can't stitch freehand and a qsnap/super frame is not my thing. Even huge things like a Haed go on my hoop.
Aren't q-snaps great :D my only issue with them is if your fabric is really big, it gets heavy after a while.
